Quartzite Gem & Mineral Show
It was a beautiful sunny day with a crisp breeze and the sun just rising over the mountains.
We packed up some empty back packs, freshly picked fruits, brewed tea, and hit the road. It was an easy drive, surrounded by lush deserts, finally rehydrated after years of drought, and quirky signs pointing to small dusty towns and “Dan’s Really Good Beef Jerky”. I couldn’t wait to drive up over that hill and see Quartzite sprawled below. We pulled in on a dirt road, market the car, and off we went into the show.
Immediately I felt an overwhelming calm energy, surrounded by kind eyes and gorgeous gems. People were quick to ask our origins, and we met a great number of people from Chicago! It always amazes me how small our world can be. We spoke with Wayne about his dig in Indiana where he found a stunning collection of Celestine, Mary-Beth told me about a new patina technique she was thrilled to discover only to realize we both work in crystal healing and quickly embraced me in a warm hug. Jennifer was sweet to tell me about their mining adventures and their recent purchase of a serpentine mine that fulfilled their wildest dreams. Along this path, I met so many wonderful people and found so many special and unique crystals, some so radiant it was hard to understand how they were still waiting to be taken home.
Six hours, and a couple tacos, and a heavy backpack later, we were on our way back to Palm Springs where I cleansed all of my new finds and dreamt about what pieces I could make to share with the world. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am buzzing with anticipation to attend next year.
